'We think there is a miracle around the corner': Pence responds to Biden's criticism over coronavirus pandemic
Vice President Mike Pence has responded to Joe Biden‘s acceptance speech criticism of the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying he believes there is “a miracle around the corner”.
In an interview on CNN on Friday, Mr Pence, the leader of the coronavirus task force, was asked how many Americans would lose their lives due to the pandemic by the end of the year.
“As of this morning, 174,000 have lost their lives to this pandemic”, CNN’s John Berman asked, pointing out around 1000 new recorded deaths across the country on Thursday.

Trump claims 'deep state' is delaying coronavirus vaccine until after election
Donald Trump pushed a baseless conspiracy theory that the “deep state” is delaying a coronavirus vaccine until after the election in an early morning Twitter rant on Saturday.

“The deep state, or whoever, over at the FDA is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics,” he wrote.

Trump attacked the FDA on vaccine timing just days after a top official pledged to resign if the administration rushes out an unproven immunization
  • President Trump attacked the US Food and Drug Administration in a tweet on Saturday, claiming the agency was "making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics."
  • "Obviously, they are hoping to delay the answer until after November 3rd," Trump wrote.
  • The president's tweet comes a few days after a top official at the FDA told Reuters that they would resign if the Trump administration pushed for the release of a COVID-19 vaccine that wasn't safe.
  • There is no evidence that the FDA is delaying treatments or vaccines for COVID-19.
