Alabama’s governor says masks remain required in public, breaking with other Republican governors.

Gov. Kay Ivey of Alabama on Thursday said she was extending the statewide mask order for another month, breaking with two other Republican governors who have announced plans to lift mandates in their states against the advice of federal health officials. Aside from her decision on the mask mandate, which will now be in place until April 9, Ms. Ivey said other virus related restrictions, including allowing restaurants and breweries to operate at full capacity, will also be lifted then. “There’s no question that wearing masks has been one of my greatest tools in combating the virus,” she said at a news conference.
