Biden golfed as president for the first time on his 87th day in office. Trump played on his 15th.
  • President Joe Biden played golf for the first time as president on Saturday, his 87th day in office.
  • By contrast, former President Donald Trump first played golf 15 days into his tenure in 2017.
  • During his time as president, Trump played golf nearly 300 times, according to a tracker.
Between Inauguration Day 2017 and April 29, 2017 — Trump's 100th day in office — the former president visited a golf course nearly every weekend for a total of 19 times, according to tracker Trump Golf Count. At the end of his first year as president, Trump spent more than a third of the year at one of his golf courses.

Biden on Saturday played at the Wilmington Country Club near his home in Delaware. White House pool reporters said he was golfing with adviser Steve Ricchetti and his late son Beau's father-in-law, Ron Olivere.

Trump generally played golf at his own properties like the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, the golf-tracking website shows.

... Prior to entering office, he would frequently blast his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, for golfing, saying he would never "have time" to play if he were in the role.

And during his presidency, Trump downplayed the amount of time he spent on the course and falsely claimed Obama played more than he did.

"I know many in business and politics that work out endlessly, in some cases to a point of exhaustion. It is their number one passion in life, but nobody complains," Trump once tweeted. "My 'exercise' is playing, almost never during the week, a quick round of golf. Obama played more and much longer rounds, no problem."

Obama did play more rounds of golf than Trump — but that was over the course of a two-term tenure. In his eight years as president, Obama played 333 rounds of golf.

The frequency sometimes interrupted daily workflow and duties, as Trump's aides tried and failed to reach him while he was golfing.

Biden, meanwhile, has gained recognition as one of the top 150 players in Washington, DC.

About a dozen OAN employees have quit in recent months as some staffers don't believe the stories run on air, report says
  • The New York Times reported that about a dozen staffers have recently exited One America News.
  • According to the report, some One America News employees are skeptical of their own network's reporting.
  • The network leans heavily in favor of ex-President Donald Trump and has peddled false claims.
Employees of the cable network One America News do not believe all of the claims that are aired on it, according to a report by The New York Times.

According to the Sunday report, about a dozen staffers have left the network in recent months following the January 6 riot at the US Capitol that left five people dead. The network for months aired, repeated, and speculated on the former president's false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election.

There is no evidence to suggest any substantial fraud influenced the election. President Joe Biden won the election by beating Trump in key battleground states.

"Many people have raised concerns," Allysia Britton, a news producer who recently left the network told The New York Times. "And the thing is, when people speak up about anything, you will get in trouble."

Charles Herring, the president of OAN, confirmed to The Times that about 12 staffers had recently departed the network, but said they were "low-level" staffers.

Marty Golingan, an OAN producer since 2016, said the "majority" of his colleagues at the network did not believe the claims of voter fraud that were being run on the network. After the insurrection, he said he feared that his work at the network helped lead to the January 6 attack on the Capitol when he saw someone there had a flag with the network's logo.

"I was like, OK, that's not good," Golingan said. "That's what happens when people listen to us."

As USA Today reported in January, some media analysts have connected rhetoric espoused on conservative networks, including Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax to the actions that took place in Washington on January 6.

John Boehner: The 'so-called America First Caucus' is 'one of the nuttiest things I've ever seen'
  • Boehner slammed the effort by a group of House Republicans to create an "America First Caucus."
  • On NBC's "Meet The Press," Boehner called the idea one of the "nuttiest" things he has witnessed.
  • "We ought to celebrate the fact that we are this giant melting pot," he said.
Boehner criticized the worldview of those who conceived of such a caucus.

"I have no idea how this even showed up," he emphasized. "America is a land of immigration. We've been the world's giant melting pot for 250 years. And we ought to celebrate the fact that we are this giant melting pot.

He added: "To see some members of Congress go off and start this America First Caucus is — it's the silliest thing I've ever seen. And Republicans need to denounce it."

... Later in his interview, Boehner expressed regret for not reaching a deal on immigration reform with former President Barack Obama.

"Our immigration system is a mess," he said. "It's broken from top to bottom. And it needs to be fixed so that it's fairer for Americans who are here and fairer for those who are trying to come here."

The favorability of the Duchess of Sussex is seen through a partisan lens in the US, as she fares poorly among voters who backed former President Donald Trump in 2020, according to a new poll from The Economist/YouGov.

Among Trump voters, 62 percent of respondents have an unfavorable view of Meghan Markle, with 46 percent holding a "very unfavorable" view.

Only 25 percent of Trump voters have a favorable view of Markle.

However, she is viewed favorably by a whopping 72 percent of voters who backed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, with only 14 percent of Biden voters holding an unfavorable view.

Among the general public, Markle is viewed positively by 47 percent of respondents, with 33 percent seeing her unfavorably, and 20 percent of respondents not having an opinion.

The partisan lines are similar for Markle's husband, Prince Harry.

While 76 percent of Biden voters have a favorable opinion of the Duke of Sussex, only 10 percent of Biden voters view him unfavorably.

Among Trump voters, 38 percent of respondents see Harry in a positive light, while 46 percent registered their disapproval.

The late Princess Diana, Harry's mother, is seen positively by 66 percent of respondents and her enduring popularity translates across politics — 79 percent of Biden voters see her positively, with 67 percent of Trump voters expressing the same sentiment.

Trumpism
or Trump-ism

Trumpism refers to the nontraditional political philosophy and approach espoused by Donald Trump and his supporters. The term Trumpism can also be used to directly refer to an outrageous or idiosyncratic statement made by Donald Trump.

Trump, whom many observers consider an anomaly, left the White House by saying, “We will be back in some form.” His legacy is “Trumpism” – a wave of white nationalism.

Trumpisms are Bushisms on steroids.
