The teacher who wrestled a gunman at Marjorie Taylor Greene's high school says Greene is 'an idiot' for wanting firearms in classrooms
  • Marjorie Taylor Greene has promoted conspiracy theories about school shootings.
  • She defends her stance by referring to a 1990 hostage situation at her own high school.
  • Congress largely remains gridlocked on gun bills in response to mass shootings.
A teacher who wrestled with a gunman at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's Georgia high school in 1990 called Greene "an idiot" for her stance on guns in schools.

The 17-year-old gunman, Randy Floyd Addis, held nine of his classmates hostage at gunpoint for five hours before he surrendered to police. Greene attended the school at the time, but wasn't among the hostages, said Forsyth County Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo.

When Greene was running for Congress last year, she called Johnny Tallant — a history teacher at South Forsyth High School in 1990 who wrestled a gun from Addis — to talk about guns in schools, Tallant told Insider in an exclusive interview this week.

"She called me last summer before she started to campaign and was talking about the hostage situation," Tallant said. "Her comment was that if we had had guns it would have solved the situation. I said, 'You're an idiot.' Now I realize she really is an idiot."

Tallant hadn't known Greene when she was a student and isn't sure why she called him, he said.
