That's something I want to make clear, is, he's not off limits. But I also think if we can get that information prior to him and obviously you recognize the second he's subpoenaed it creates a whole circus, but we will do what we need to do. — GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois

We are so tribalistic in this country that I think people don't want to know facts, because it's whatever narrative puts them in the tribe. We have to have unity when it comes to defending democracy, or we will find ourselves in a bad place. — GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois

GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois during an MSNBC interview on Wednesday said he didn't know if the House select committee investigating January 6 will subpoena former President Donald Trump, but underscored that Trump is "not off limits."

"I think that we can get to all the information we need without him, but I think we're certainly willing to do it," Kinzinger, who sits on the committee, told MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle.

"That's something I want to make clear, is, he's not off limits," Kinzinger added. "But I also think if we can get that information prior to him and obviously you recognize the second he's subpoenaed it creates a whole circus, but we will do what we need to do."

... Though Trump provoked the fatal January 6 insurrection via his lies about the 2020 election, a recent Quinnipiac University poll found that 56% of Republicans believe the former president does not bear any responsibility for the Capitol riot. Kinzinger, who has broken from the rest of the GOP by taking a stand against Trump, told Ruhle that the poll was "difficult" to look at.

"We are so tribalistic in this country that I think people don't want to know facts, because it's whatever narrative puts them in the tribe," Kinzinger added. "We have to have unity when it comes to defending democracy, or we will find ourselves in a bad place."
